The Sad Sale

About a month ago I decided to sell two lenses that I thought would be with me till the end of my shooting days, the SMC PENTAX FA 77mm f/1.8 Limited and the SMC PENTAX FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited. Both of these lenses have been workhorses for me over the last few years on the Pentax K-1, but as I slowly migrate to Fujifilm for more paid portrait work I was finding myself reaching for them less and less.
I am not a collector, funds are tight and so I try to operate a fairly strict gear policy. When new gear comes in older gear (that sees less use) are sold to help fund those transactions. I also hate the idea of lenses just sitting and collecting dust, if my lenses can be used by someone else then I think that is the best outcome. The glass lives on through someone else’s vision.

Below is a short video I recently made in response to another Youtuber who proposed the question ‘what should Pentax’s next lens be?’. My answer surrounds the sale of these two lenses, and what Pentax could do to really entice me back to this genre with their gear. But mostly this post is a celebration of the work I have done with these two iconic lenses.

Thank you Pentax.
