Penrith Youth Orchestra with Paul Terracini

Last year saw an assignment to shoot the Penrith Youth Orchestra conducted by Paul Terracini at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre. I was permitted to capture rehearsals and performance (as well as some backstage).

Writing RAW to one SD Card and Jpg to the other, I went in armed with what I felt was a suitable fuji filmsim recipe, Kodak Ektar 100, this I hoped to bring focus to and enrich the deep reds in the wooden instruments and stage presence. It is super helpful to shoot with this immediate colour grading feedback in the field, it can assist with exposure choices and compositions. Thus the colour shots in this set are tweaks of this Kodak Ektar 100 recipe to just polish what was already captured at the time. The RAWs were left to be freely interpreted as suitable monochromes.

Tomorrow (Friday 3rd of March) marks the 2023 season launch party for The Joan (which I will cover), so now feels a sensible time to share last years work.
